Nicki Furniss, founder of Revivepilates, first became a Mat Pilates Instructor in 2018 after falling in love with the practice and its benefits on the body. Nicki has years of experience in the health and fitness industry, working as a Personal Trainer and Fitness Class Instructor. Nicki combined her love for Pilates and teaching and Revivepilates was founded in 2024 after Nicki became a Reformer Pilates Instructor.
What is Mat Pilates?
Mat Pilates is a low impact form of exercise founded by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century, it's a mind-body practice that follows 6 priciples; Breath, Concentration, Centering, Control, Precision and Flow. We focus a lot on postural alignment, core strength and stability and mobility of the whole body to help you in your day to day activites. All our Mat Pilates classes are suitable for beginners and those wanting to improve, Pilates is for everyone! Mat Pilates is also great if you struggle with a bad back, knees, shoulders or hips. Movement is medicine.
What is Reformer Pilates?
Reformer Pilates is also a low impact form of exercise founded by Joseph Pilates. The Refomer is a machine that uses springs as resistance. The springs can be used to make Pilates exercises harder or easier. Reformer Pilates still follows all the same 6 principles as Mat Pilates, focusing again on postural alignment, core strength and stability and mobility of the whole body, but in ways can be more challenging than Mat Pilates because of the moving carriage and added resistance.
